Major objectives of the 2011 Baltic Business Forum

Representatives of PAIiIZ, the BBF Association, representatives of Embassies and chambers of commerce in Poland met to discuss objectives of this year’s Forum.

The meeting took place in the seat of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency on March 7th, 2011 and gathered together economic councillors from Embassies and delegates of chambers of commerce from the Baltic countries and countries covered by the EU Eastern Partnership programme with PAIiIZ and BBF representatives.

During the meeting organisers presented major objectives of this year’s edition of the Forum and invited participants to discuss the most important topics, challenges and potential problems connected with the Forum.

Representatives of the Economic Department of the Chinese province Jiangsu visit Poland

The Chinese delegation from the Jiangsu province, headed by the Director of the Economic Department, Mr Zhu Min visited Poland from February 27th to March 4th.

The delegation comprises of representatives of the biggest companies active in the energy sector: Suntech Power Co. Ltd., Wiscom System Co. Ltd., Etern Company Ltd., Zongyi Co. Ltd., Suning Appliance Co. Ltd.

The companies sought opportunities to construct production facilities and establish new business contacts in Poland.

On Monday, February 28th, the delegation met with the Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Economy, Rafał Baniak and took part in an investment seminar organised at the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ) and chaired by the PAIiIZ President, Sławomir Majman.

The seminar was attended by representatives of Polish city councils, special economic zones, banks and energy companies. After the seminar, Polish and Chinese participants had the chance to hold direct business talks.

In order to get to know investment opportunities in the country, during the second part of the visit the delegation visited Łódź and Kraków. (PAIiIZ)

Polish - Romanian Economic Forum

The Forum will take place on March 17th, 2011 in Warsaw.

The Embassy of Romania in Poland and the Ministry of Economy invite Polish entrepreneurs to take part in the Polish - Romanian Economic Forum which will be organised on March 17th, 2011 in the Polish Ministry of Economy.

The Forum will be opened by Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Waldemar Pawlak and the Romanian Minister of Economy Ion Ariton.

The Forum is geared towards entrepreneurs active in the defence, aviation, mining, energy, IT, construction and railway industries.

In the first part of the Forum participants will have the chance to attend a conference which will be attended by economy ministers of Poland and Romania. The second part of the gathering will be devoted to matchmaking sessions which will give Polish and Romanian entrepreneurs opportunity to run direct business talks.

INVESTMENTS IN POLAND

The Krzywa subzone - an important stop on your way to the West

The new resting place created near the slip road from the A4 highway towards the Krzywa subzone of the Legnica Special Economic Zone, is the first place of this kind on the A4 section between Wrocław and the Poland-Germany border crossing.

The resting place includes two gas stations (Orlen, Statoil), parkings for passenger cars and trucks, a car wash, restaurants and bars. There are plans to build a hotel.

The place is not only used by travellers but is also geared towards entrepreneurs interested in investing in the Krzywa subzone. The subzone has already attracted projects from Germany and Spain, among others, by Hörmann - producer of gates and doors, Atlas - Polish potentate in the construction sector and Młynpol - producer of flour and flour products. The Zone has over 50ha of industrial area ready for interested investors. (Legnica SEZ)

Investment revival in the Starachowice Special Economic Zone

In February the Zone granted new business activity permissions to Cerrad and GreenAgro.

Cerrad plans to expand its operations and modernise its production processes. The company, which has been producing clinker and ceramic tiles, wants to introduce new technology, new products and improve their quality. This is second permission the company gets to operate within the zone. This time the company located its project in the Starachowice subznone.

By the end of 2013 Cerrad will invest PLN 20 100 000 and by the end of 2016 the company plans to increase the current level of employment up to 193.

GreenAgro will invest and start production of high energy granulate from organic waste. The project will be situated in the Tułowice subzone of the SEZ.

By the end of 2017 the company wants to recruit and hire 15 workers. The investment, which is planned to be finished by May 2012, is estimated to cost PLN 7 090 000. (Starachowice SEZ)

Development zone

This year the Kamienna Góra Special Economic Zone plans to issue at least 7 new business activity permissions, start new investments in infrastructure and acquire attractive industrial area. These are several of the moves which the zone plans to make this year. Last year, despite general economic hardships was for the zone rather successful.

It is estimated that this year the zone will see 350 new jobs created as a result of the expansion of Kalibra’s factory located in Kamienna Góra (new technology line for the production of plastic packages for the food industry and an R&D unit), construction of a new facility by ANDY Izolacje Tekstylne also in Kamienna Góra, new investments by HMS - producer of solar devices, by TBAI Poland (in Nowogrodziec) - major provider of car parts for Toyota in Europe, by O.P.S.O in Jelenia Góra and by a biomass producer Enforest in Żmigród.

While in 2009 the Zone issued only 2 business activity permissions, in 2010 the number of granted permission rose to 7. The zone attracted investors from Poland, Austria, Germany and Belgium who jointly invested PLN60 million and declared to create 200 workplaces.

- Effects of the recent economic crisis can still be felt but we have been observing a considerable revival especially in the sector of small and medium size companies - said president of the Kamienna Góra SEZ, Iwona Krawczyk.

At the moment the SEZ gathers 44 companies wither already operating or in the process of construction and organisation. The Zone attracted investment of over PLN1.7 billion which generated almost 4 700 new jobs. Only in the last 6 months investors located here projects worth PLN35 million which will create 300 jobs.   • Eurostat: Unemployment in the 1Q of the year equalled 9.7% in Poland and 9.5% in the EU

    Unemployment rate in Poland in January 2011 was 9.7% against 9.5% y-o-y and 9.7% in December 2010. In the whole of the European Union the rate was 9.5% against 9.5% y-o-y and 9.6%in December 2010. (Eurostat)

FROM THE REGIONS

Małopolska on CeBIT 2011 in Hannover

This year the biggest technology fairs CeBIT 2011. focused on “The Power of creativity and innovation!”

This year Business in Małopolska presented a comprehensive offer of 44 Polish firms active in the IT sector in a catalogue created for the event and familiarised all guests with support tools available for investors and entrepreneurs.

Polish Ministry of Economy which is actively interested in supporting export of Polish IT products, rented over 500m2 of exhibition space. This was the first time Poland was present in Hannover on such a scale. Moreover, the Ministry which makes efforts to support creation of Polish IT brand in the world, tries to make Poland a strategic partner of the 2012 CeBIT fairs in Hannover.

During the first day of the event the Polish stands were visited by the Deputy Prime Minister Waldemar Pawlak and Krzysztof Krzysztofik, president of the Małopolska Regional Development Agency (MAAR) (MARR is one of regional partners of the region of Małopolska). On March 1st Małopolska presented a comprehensive offer of support available for entrepreneurs in the region.

The official opening was attended by Angela Merkel Chancellor of Germany and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Prime Minister of Turkey which was the official partner of the 2010 fairs. (Małopolskie Investor Assistance Centre)
