Podkarpackie is located in the south-eastern part of Poland, bordering Ukraine and Slovakia. The capital of the Voivodeship is Rzeszów, one of the Polish cities with the highest percentage of students (17.1%). Podkarpackie thanks to its favourable location, good communication (intersection of the A4 motorway and the S-19 expressway, which are part of international transport corridors) and business-friendly assets, such as: special economic zones, science and technology parks, tax reliefs, clusters (e.g. Aviation Valley, having the status of a key national cluster, IT Cluster, POLIGEN Plastics Processing Cluster, Eastern Automotive Alliance, Polish Group Automotive, also on the list of national key clusters, Eastern Foundry Cluster KOM-CAST, Quality of Life Cluster), has gained the position of an innovative centre and has also become an attractive investment target for both domestic and foreign entrepreneurs. The region is highly industrialized and is oriented in particular towards the aerospace, electromechanical, automotive, IT and chemical industries. These sectors have a very high potential for innovation transfer and stimulate the socio-economic development of the region. The Aviation Valley Association operates in the region - a unique cluster in which many global aviation companies cooperate with each other - PZL Mielec - Sikorsky, MTU Aero Engines, Pratt & Whitney, EME-AERO, UTC Aerospace Systems, Heli-One. 90% of the Polish production of the aviation industry is concentrated in this Subcarpathian region. In addition, the Voivodeship offers entrepreneurs well-qualified staff, educated at public and private universities. An additional advantage is the Rzeszów-Jasionka International Airport, which has been a logistics and supply centre since the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Voivodeship focuses on the development of innovative entrepreneurship. The Podkarpackie Innovation Centre and the Rzeszów Regional Development Agency are examples of institutions supporting start-ups and innovative enterprises in areas ranging from fundraising, prototyping and research related to the implementation of the idea, to introducing the product/service to the market. A comprehensive system of supporting innovation in the region consists of cooperation between entities included in smart specializations; Voivodeship and local government authorities, universities and centres of the National Innovation System and the National Services System, and financial institutions (loan and guarantee funds).
