The next step in the development of a sustainable supply chain for battery manufacturers

A Turkish company from the chemical sector enters the Polish market. Ege Kimya will establish a plant in the Industrial Park of Modern Technologies in Stargard to produce nickel and cobalt salts, which are key raw materials for the production of batteries for electric vehicles (EVs). During the investment process the investor received full support from the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH). This investment in Poland will be the company's first production plant located outside of Turkey.

The aim of Ege Kimya's investment, of almost PLN 140 million, is to supply nickel and cobalt sulphate to customers located in Poland and other EU countries. The Investor has already acquired a plot of 11ha in the Industrial Park of Modern Technologies in Stargard. One third of the area of the purchased land will be used in the current phase of the project. While the rest of the plot is reserved for expanding the product range and production capacity of the factory in the following years. The implementation of the project will be the next step allowing for the development of a sustainable supply chain for battery manufacturers operating in Poland. The planned date of commencement of production is the first half of 2024.

Electromobility is a huge and growing branch of the economy. In Poland, the number of companies developing production in this sector is growing rapidly. Already, our country is home to the production of 30% of all batteries for electric vehicles produced in Europe. I am very pleased that we are expanding this sector with another investment. With this we will be able to further strengthen our leading position among the countries involved in the construction of the European supply chain for the battery sector - commented Krzysztof Drynda, Chairman of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency.

The Ege Kimya plant plans to use in their production process, emission-free technologies which are the result of many years of research and development. Energy to be used in the plant will come from renewable energy sources. The factory in Stargard will also have a R&D facility. Thanks to locating factories in Poland, European car companies and battery manufacturers will be able to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of their production.

The Polish Investment and Trade Agency was directly involved in the preparation of the investment offer and location visits. PAIH employees also helped in the selection of a specific investment plot. The Kostrzyn-Słubice SEZ, the Marshal's Office of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship and the Stargard City Hall were also intensively involved in supporting the investment in Stargard.

We decided to invest in north-western Poland primarily, due to, the proximity of potential customers. Additional arguments in favour of Stargard were the availability of media enabling advanced chemical production, access to the railway line, expressway and the proximity of the port in Świnoujście. Our factory in Poland will not only allow us to provide key products for the production of batteries for electric cars, but also, thanks to the location and use of green energy sources, will minimize the carbon footprint of electric cars produced in Europe - said Erez Navaro, member of the Ege Kimya Management Board.
