A new opening of economic relations with Spain

Several hundred entrepreneurs and representatives of State administration from Poland and Spain, numerous discussions and meetings. This all took place at the Spanish-Polish Business Forum, during which representatives of the business world and government institutions talked about the possibilities of strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries. This meeting was an opportunity to exchange experiences and establish new business relations. The Forum was organized in Warsaw by ICEX Spain Trade and Investment and the Spanish Embassy in Poland, with PAIH as a co-organizer of the event.

The Forum gathered a total of over 400 participents, including representatives of almost 300 Polish companies and over 50 representatives of Spanish companies and State institutions. The participants of the Spanish-Polish Business Forum discussed about the most promising areas of cooperation between our countries. Andrzej Dycha, PAIH’s Chairman and Pablo Conde, General Director of ICEX Spain Trade and Investment opened the event and welcomed the guests.

Investments are the driving force of Poland’s economy. Spanish companies find attractive conditions for investment in Poland, and Polish companies are successfully developing their operations in Spain. Recently, we have observed a growing interest of Spanish investors in the implementation of projects in our country. Polish-Spanish trade is also growing - said PAIH’s Chairman Andrzej Dycha during the opening ceremony - We should put special emphasis on creating conditions conducive to the development of SMEs, which are one of the pillars of the Polish and Spanish economies. Our countries can be leaders in creating green technologies, investing in renewable energy sources and modern mobility - he added.

In his speech, the General Director of ICEX, Pablo Conde, emphasized the benefits of the mutual presence of companies on the markets and the opportunities that lie for Spain and Poland in the development of cooperation in the field of trade and investment.

The event was also attended by Carlos Cuerpo - Spain’s Minister of Trade and Business and Michał Baranowski, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Development and Technology of the Polish Republic. Representatives of the ministries spoke about the great openness of both countries to cooperation and the resulting synergy effect, which will allow to increase the competitiveness of companies in the world.

The event was devoted to the most promising industries, common to both economies. Among the companies present at the Forum, entities from the space and aeronautical, railway and renewable energy sectors dominated. Among the areas of cooperation with the greatest potential, were industries of the future, including the development of artificial intelligence.

In the second part of the event, discussions in the form of a round table were held, devoted, to among other things, the opportunities and challenges related to operations in both countries, prospects for economic changes in the coming decade, as well as the renewable energy and space industry in Poland. The event ended with a networking session, which was an opportunity for Polish entrepreneurs to establish cooperation with potential Spanish partners.

The Forum was part of the Spain - Poland 2025 Business Meeting, organized by ICEX Spain Trade and Investment and the Spanish Embassy in Poland between the 11th-13th February in Warsaw. A delegation of 50 Spanish companies, led by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, came to Poland.

Since 2012. Poland records a positive trade balance with Spain. Exports from Poland to Spain increased by approx. 10% compared to the same period in 2022. After 8 months of 2024, there was a further increase in exports of goods from Poland to Spain of 4% and amounted to EUR 6.7 billion. Imports of Spanish goods to Poland amounted to EUR 3.6 billion.

According to GUS data for 2023, Spain is Poland’s 9th economic partner in terms of the value of our exports. While in 2023. Spain was ranked 5th among the largest foreign investors in Poland. Polish companies also invest in the Spanish market, primarily in the following industries: IT, finance, construction chemicals, automotive, pharmacy, medical and food.
