Polish Cities - unlocking the potential - Łódź, 2025
Polish Cities - unlocking the potential
- Łódź, 2025

Located in the very centre of Poland, the Łódź Voivodeship can boast a long tradition of manufacturing clothing and textiles. Currently, in addition to these two pillars, the most important industries in the region are: production of household appliances, pharmaceuticals, agri-food processing, production of medical equipment, packaging and construction ceramics. Over 50 percent of the domestic production of ceramic tiles and terracotta tiles are produced in the Łódź Voivodeship. The region is also developing in other areas, such as: financial, billing and research services (BPO/SSC business process outsourcing, shared service centre) and biotechnology. It is worth noting that the largest industrial cluster of household appliances manufacturers in Europe was created in the Łódź Voivodeship. It is made up of, among others, manufacturers such as B/S/H/, Beko Europe and Miele. An equally important sector for the region is logistics, the development of which is driven by the central location of the region. Amazon, GLS, DHL and Panattoni are companies that have recently dynamically increased their employment. The gigantic logistics centres built near the A1 and A2 motorways are key distribution hubs for the whole of Europe, which creates new jobs in warehouses, operations and IT departments.

Advantages of the voivodeship

  • Central location in Poland, at the intersection of the North-South (A1) and East-West (A2) transport corridors, within the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), connecting Western Europe with Eastern Europe (North Sea-Baltic Corridor) and the Baltic States with the southern part of the continent (Baltic-Adriatic Corridor).
  • A 100-kilometer ring road around the metropolitan area (A1, A2, S8, S14) shortens order fulfillment times and optimizes supply chains.
  • Excellent access to EU, Ukrainian, Kazakhstan, and Chinese markets, including the Łódź-Chengdu cargo rail link in Sichuan Province, China. The Łódź Voivodeship is also a key element of the nationwide High-Speed Rail and Port Polska (formerly CPK) projects, particularly in terms of rail infrastructure, logistics, and the development of industrial zones.
  • Highly qualified and committed employees. Numerous higher education institutions and vocational schools prepare employees with the highest professional competencies. Approximately 57% of the total population is of working age.
  • Significant national scientific and research potential of 27 higher education institutions and research centers. The Łódź region has approximately 70,000 students, and local universities produce approximately 16,000 graduates annually, including many highly qualified specialists in automation, robotics, IT, and production engineering. The region also offers nearly 200 vocational education programs in 30 industries, offering education to nearly 60,000 students.
  • The voivodeship is an attractive investment destination thanks to the support of 35 municipalities from the EU's Just Transition Fund (JTF), which provides access to over €350-370 million in EU funds for 2021-2027 for economic diversification, clean energy development, professional development, and infrastructure and research and development investments.
  • Thermal springs, which can be a foundation for the development of renewable energy and the development of the region's spa functions (examples include the only thermal spa in Poland in Uniejów and the Thermal Water Pump Room in Poddębice).
  • The voivodeship authorities' active economic policy is aimed at developing a friendly administration for small and medium-sized businesses and creating favorable employment conditions.
  • Attractive investment opportunities are located throughout the voivodeship.
  • A large number of SMEs can be considered potential suppliers of parts and components for foreign manufacturers. At the end of the third quarter of 2025, approximately 296,000 businesses were registered in the Łódź Voivodeship, the vast majority of which were SMEs.

The structure of employment in the province is characterized by the dominant share of the service sector (66%), while the agricultural and industrial sectors account for 10% and 24% of the employed respectively.

Most companies in Łódz operate in the service industry, including primarily in sectors such as: trade, repair of motor vehicles, transport (mainly road), warehouse management, accommodation and catering, information and communication, financial and insurance activities, and real estate market services.

A significant share in the total number of entities is also made up of entities from the construction industry, from the industrial processing sector and from the field of scientific and technical activities (about 32%).

Companies and production plants are primarily involved in the production of clothing, fabrics, foodstuffs, beverages, furniture and finished metal products, as well as leather tanning and dyeing. The region is a leading producer of clothing, textiles, tobacco products, beverages and foodstuffs. The Łódź Voivodeship also has an almost 20% share in the domestic market of electrical appliances production (mainly household appliances).

The field that is developing dynamically in the Łódź region is the pharmaceutical industry and wholesale trade in pharmaceutical product.
