On 15 December, Baku held Poland - Azerbaijan Economic Forum, with the participation of deputy prime minister, Janusz Piechociński, PAIiIZ president Sławomir Majman, and the accompanying delegation of Polish business.

During the Forum, Azerbaijan was represented by minister of energy  Natiq Aliyev and Rufat Mammadov, president of Azerbaijan Foundation for Export andInvestment Promotion (AZPROMO), which was the host of the meeting. Exept deputy premier Piechociński, among Polish speaker at the conference there were: president Sławomir Majman, BGK bank expert, Karol Rosenberg and head of Trade and Investment Dep. of Polish Embassy in the Republicof Kazakhstan, Andrzej Stefański. After the official part of the meeting  B2B talkes between Polish and Azerbaijani entrepreneurs were held.

“Our goal is to build a friendly, stable and mutually beneficial trade and economic relations with Azerbaijan”, said deputy prime minister, Janusz Piechociński noting that the strong participation of Polish entrepreneurs in the Forum express Polish interest in doing businesswith Azerbaijani partners. “This event creats a great opportunity to establish contacts between business from both countries and intensify economic cooperation”, he said.

According to the deputy prime minister Piechociński, nowadays Azerbaijan is the most stable and predictable economy in the region. As he pointed out, Polish authorities defined the most prospects sectors of  economic cooperation between both sides. Among them there are: construction, real estate and communal, transport, agriculture and food processing, machinery and equipment for the agri-food, energy, environmental technologies, logistics and transport services sectors as well as chemical and defense industries. The head of Polish Ministry of Economy has also stressed that  Azerbaijan is a promising market with many opportunities for Polish exports, therfore it was added to 10 strategic countries covered by the govermential promotional programme entitled “Activation of Efforts on Selected Foreign Markets Significant for Polish Economic Policy as well as International Activity of Polish Entrepreneurs”.

“Strengthening the economic ties will be possible thanks to next projects planned in 2015, including the organization of incoming mission of potential partners from Azerbaijan to Poland” he added.

Forum is one of the highlights of a few-days mission to Azerbaijan, which brings together Polish senior representatives of government and dozens of Polish entrepreneurs including manufacturers of buses and trams as Solaris Bus and PESA, representatives of the agri-food companies such as Mlekpol,Spomlek, Spółdzielnia Obrotu Towarowego Przemysłu Mleczarskiego in Łowicz or Orchard Group "Owoc Sandomierski"as well as a producer of household appliances Amica Wronki S.A.

The Forum coincides with the works of the 6th meeting of the Azerbaijani-Polish Intergovernmental Commission for Econimic Cooperation.Participants of the commision focused on cooperation regarding energy, agriculture, transport, finance and banking, tourism, sectors as well as culture, crisis management and civil protection.

During the mission, Polish delegation visited also  Technology Park located in Sumgait that is the third most populous city of the country founded in 1949 as a major center of metal and chemical industry.

According to the Polish Ministry of Economy, in 2013 Polish trade turnover with Azerbaijan amounted to $153.3 million and was higher by 20.6% compared to 2012. (PAIiIZ/ MG/PAP)
