Location:

The project will be located in Krakow - Branice (a district of Nowa Huta) on the eastern side of the steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal industrial complex. As of the day of the feasibility study preparation, the area had no buildings on its larger part, there was a relatively wide range of transport connections and few landscape values. On the northern side of Igołomska Street, a Special Economic Zone - Krakow Technology Park - was established.

The project was located in the area defined by the following borders:

  • in the north - Rusiecka Street and field paths,
  • in the west - on the southern side of Igołomska Street along the fence of ArcelorMittal steelworks, and after cutting Igołomska Street through the terrain of the waste products landfill site of the Steelworks,
  • in the south - north of Sasanek Street and its extension,
  • in the east - Rzepakowa Street.

The area covered by the planned undertaking is 122.75 ha.

Location:

  • Nowa Huta district, Branice area,
  • on the eastern side of ArcelorMittal Poland industrial complex,
  • around 6 km from the center of Nowa Huta,
  • around 13 km from the center of Krakow.

Sector profile

The aim of the project is to create infrastructure of an industrial park, which would support innovativeness and entrepreneurship in the region through activities which facilitate establishment and development of small and medium-sized companies from the local market, as well as to create conditions for operation of industrial production and provision of services.

Key functional areas of the Park operation:

  • Supporting innovative entrepreneurs.
  • Supporting research and development projects implementation.
  • Creation of an area with access to top class equipment for students, young entrepreneurs, inventors.
  • Professional consulting, supporting innovative initiatives and searching for strategic partners for new projects.
  • Promotion of ecological solutions and principles of sustainable development.
  • Creation of a work&play&learn area.
  • Organization of Think-Thank-Islands – a platforms of current information exchange.
  • Operation of a Design and Ergonomics Center.

Key business lines:

  • materials engineering and nanotechnologies for special applications,
  • clean energy technologies,
  • energy self-sufficient buildings.

Park Offer

“Kraków – Nowa Huta Przyszłości” is a comprehensive vision of social and economic recovery of the eastern part of Krakow, involving implementation of four projects, which thanks to the synergy effect will contribute to the change of the character of the area and improvement of its attractiveness both for residents and investors. The scope of the comprehensive “Kraków – Nowa Huta Przyszłości” project covers four undertakings: 

  • Branice Science and Technology Park,
  • Logistics Center,
  • Large-Scale Cultural Events Center Błonia 2.0,
  • Development of Przylasek Rusiecki.

The Branice Science and Technology Park is the largest undertaking oriented towards economic activation of the eastern part of Krakow. According to the plan it is going to be an area intended for investors, in particular, for innovative technology companies, modern industry with the simultaneous use of the available scientific potential and human capital in the region.

The Science and Technology Park will be home to:

  • high-tech production facilities, technology centers,
  • office and administration buildings, business incubators,
  • science and research facilities (both laboratory and experiment facilities), etc.

In the scope of spatial standards defined in the Local Area Development Plan on the territory intended for implementation of the science and technology park, the following developments are included: 

  • Free-standing service facilities and service facility complexes; 
  • High-intensity service facilities;
  • Biologically active area for service facilities of at least 30%;
  • Height of the service facilities up to 18m + max. 20.

In the urban planning and architectural concept, the following types of developments, which constitute an urban complex are suggested (detailed functional and utility, as well as spatial properties in accordance with area and cubature indicators pursuant to the Polish Standard PN-ISO 9836:1997):

  1. OFFICE AND SERVICE FACILITIES

    BU.I. type facilities constitute high-intensity development, located along Igołomska Street. Buildings of a simple form on a rectangular plan, covered by a flat roof with a three-row layout and maximum height of 18 m. The prevailing function is the office function completed by services located on the ground floors of the buildings, e.g. training, conference, display, food and catering functions.

  2. OFFICE AND SERVICE FACILITIES

    BU.II type facilities form a medium-intensity development, located in the southern part of the area, parallel to Igołomska Street. Buildings of a simple form on a rectangular plan, covered by a flat roof with a three-row layout and maximum height of 13 m as well as free-standing buildings.
    The prevailing function is the office function completed by services located on the ground floors of the buildings, e.g. training, conference, display, food and catering functions.

  3. OFFICE AND LABORATORY FACILITIES

    BL type facilities form a medium-intensity development, located in the northern part of the area, parallel to Igołomska Street. Buildings of a simple form on a rectangular plan, covered by a flat roof with a three-row layout and maximum height of 13 m. Facilities of laboratory function with a supplementary office function. The location of the laboratory facilities on the external periphery of the complex, beyond the central zone, constituting a public zone is a result of the efforts put to create an area for peaceful scientific and research work.

  4. LABORATORY AND PRODUCTION FACILITIES

    LP type facilities form a medium-intensity development, located in the northern part of the area, on the edge of the described terrain. Buildings of a simple form on a rectangular plan, covered by a flat roof with a three-row layout and maximum height of 10 m. Facilities of laboratory and high-tech manufacturing function. The location of the laboratory facilities on the external periphery of the complex, beyond the central zone, constituting a public zone is a result of the efforts put to create an area for peaceful scientific and research work.

  5. SERVICE FACILITIES

    U-type facilities form free-standing development of medium intensity completing the office and service development in the form of single facilities serving special supplementary office functions.
    Buildings of an interesting form and architectural detail. Facilities of a conference, exhibition, cultural and social function. The location of the facilities inside the ordered urban layout as architectural dominants within the Branice Science and Technology Park.
